Expanding Footpath Dining In Five Dock

The City of Canada Bay is inviting local business owners and the community to provide feedback on proposed footpath dining expansions in Five Dock.

In response to growing interest from local traders, Council is exploring options to expand footpath dining opportunities along Great North Road, Ramsay Road, and Garfield Street. The initiative aims to support local businesses while creating a more vibrant and welcoming streetscape for residents and visitors alike.

Mayor Michael Megna said the proposal reflects Council's ongoing commitment to revitalising Five Dock's town centre and supporting its thriving hospitality sector.

"Footpath dining not only adds character and energy to our streets - it's a practical way to help local cafes and restaurants grow," Mayor Megna said.

"We're proud to work alongside business owners to create spaces that are more social, more accessible, and more inviting for everyone who visits Five Dock."

Council is now seeking input from local businesses to ensure any updates to the Business Use of Public Footpath Policy reflect real needs and challenges on the ground. This includes determining whether additional footpath space is suitable outside individual premises and whether policy updates would help streamline the approval process.

"We want to make sure our policy works for local businesses, not against them," Mayor Megna added.

"That's why we're calling on business owners to share their views-it's your feedback that will shape how we move forward."

Feedback is open until Sunday, 27 July 2025.
