Experts Needed for Privacy and Info Sharing Panel

  • Expressions of Interest open for the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Advisory Committee
  • Committee to advise on safe and responsible sharing of government data

The Cook Government is seeking expressions of interest to join the inaugural Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) Advisory Committee.

The Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024, which comes into effect on 1 July 2026, will protect the personal information of Western Australians while allowing the responsible sharing of government data.

The legislation is the first of its kind in Australia, establishing a Chief Data Officer who works closely with the new Information Commissioner, to lead and develop public sector capability for secure and responsible data sharing in line with international best practice.

The PRIS Advisory Committee will support the Chief Data Officer to balance the public interests in protecting privacy with the safe flow of government data, ensuring that data is used to make better decisions, deliver seamless public services, and drive innovation for public benefit, whilst upholding privacy standards.

Leaders and specialists from across WA's diverse skills landscape are encouraged to apply, including those from a range of backgrounds and perspectives such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disability, people of diverse sexualities and genders, and those with experience with marginalised groups.

As stated by Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The PRIS Advisory Committee will play a crucial role in helping shape the future of responsible information sharing in Western Australia.

"We are calling on leaders from across our community to bring their expertise and perspectives to the table, ensuring our approach to data sharing is inclusive, secure, and forward-thinking."
