Creatives from Melbourne's north are invited to rethink what a sustainable creative career can look like at Creative Industries Networking Night 2026: From Practice to Portfolio - The Art of Business, an upcoming panel event hosted by Banyule City Council and Nillumbik Shire Council.

Delivered by the Economic Development and Arts & Culture teams from both councils, the event brings together local creatives, artists and industry peers for an honest, practical conversation about turning creative practice into long‑term, viable careers.

The panel will explore how artistic work can translate into real‑world opportunities, diversified income streams and business growth, without compromising creative integrity. Designed for creatives across disciplines, the discussion will address the challenges of balancing passion with sustainability in an increasingly complex creative economy.

Local artists Clare Dunstan, Pia Nesvara and Fleassy Malay will share insights from their own career journeys. They will discuss how expanding beyond a single revenue source can open new pathways, while maintaining a strong creative identity.

The conversation will be facilitated by respected creative entrepreneur and strategist Debby Maziarz, who has extensive experience in shaping "fundable" ideas and supporting sustainable creative ventures.

Nillumbik Mayor Naomi Joiner said the event will assist local creatives to strike the balance between creative passion and practical income streams.

"This event is about demystifying the business side of creativity and empowering artists to see their practice as both culturally valuable and economically viable," Cr Joiner said.

The Creative Industries Networking Night reflects Banyule's and Nillumbik's ongoing commitment to supporting local creatives, strengthening the creative economy, and encouraging collaboration across the sector.
