Exploring options for Hampton commuter parking

Bayside City Council will explore further designs for a multi-deck, including 2 levels of basement, commuter car park in Hampton.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Laurence Evans OAM said commuter car parking is an ongoing issue for the Bayside community and that Council had called for additional commuter parking for some time.

"Council has long advocated to the State and Federal Governments for additional commuter car parking across Bayside. Parking in Hampton is set to be particularly tight in coming years due to upcoming construction works by the Victorian Government and Council's Community Hub and open space project.

"Council is committed to encouraging sustainable transport including greater use of public transport along the Sandringham railway line. By providing more commuter parking in Hampton we will encourage residents to use public transport once we return to more regular travel into the CBD post COVID-19," he said.

The Australian Government announced $4million for a multi-deck car park in Hampton in the lead up to the 2019 Federal election.

Council received funding from the Australian Government for $130,000 to undertake an initial concept design and feasibility.

Council will now explore an additional design to further minimise impact on the streetscape and incorporate further sustainable/green elements. The findings will be presented back to Council in December 2021 for a decision on whether to move forward with the concept design.

Council is continuing to liaise with the Victorian and Australian Governments regarding commuter parking in North Brighton and Sandringham. These sites are owned by the Victorian Government.
