Expression of Interest - West Coast Tip Shop

The West Coast Council is committed to improving waste operations on the West Coast. The community has expressed an interest in reuse options for material left at West Coast Council Waste Transfer Stations, including a tip shop. The West Coast Council does not have the expertise or resources necessary to successfully operate a tip shop therefore we are seeking expressions of interest from businesses and community groups.

The aim of this EOI is to identify a business or organisation to collect items from waste transfer stations in a safe manner, for future resale.

To support this Council will offer access to Waste Transfer Stations outside of public access hours at no cost.

The organisation or business with access will be able to remove any reuse items or other items for sale at no cost.

In return Council will require the successful business or organisation to:

1. Have an approved safety system and appropriate insurance.

2. Resell at least some of the items on the West Coast.

Council will not be providing a retail facility, or financial support for the ongoing operations of the business beside the no cost access arrangement. It may be possible to provide a licence to use land for the purpose of setting up a tip shop, depending on location and planning requirements. Use of land involving any Waste Transfer Station or landfill, would be subject to planning approvals and formal agreements.

This EOI process may identify a short list of proponents, or a single proponent who will be invited to submit more detailed proposals for consideration by Council.
