Expressions of Interest: Ambulance Victoria Medical Advisors in Primary Care or Psychiatry

As a modern ambulance service, we want to expand and diversify our Medical Advisory Committee (MAC).

Ambulance Victoria (AV) aims to improve the health of the community by providing high quality pre-hospital care. We provide emergency medical services for 6.5 million Victorians over an area of more than 227,000 square kilometres. Beyond the lights and sirens, we also have a secondary triage system that provides telehealth advice and expertly triages patients to the right pathway of care for their needs.

To ensure that our guidelines and practices are robust and evidence-based, we want to add both a general practitioner and a psychiatrist to our MAC.

The MAC is a high-level multidisciplinary committee of AV with executive leadership. The MAC's role is to advise AV on clinical matters and review and approve the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) used by our ~5,000 paramedics and first responders.

The positions are honorary, and your main responsibility would be to attend MAC meetings which are held quarterly to review and endorse AV's CPGs. Medical advisors will also be called occasionally to advise on matters relating to their expertise, (e.g. managing frequent presenting patients or on coronial matters).

Psychiatry:

If you are a consultant psychiatrist experienced in acute psychiatry, with an interest in the prehospital management of mental health emergencies and an understanding the Victorian mental health system, we encourage you to apply.

Primary Care:

If you are a general practitioner or rural and remote medicine specialist with experience or an interest in the prehospital management of primary care problems, we want to hear from you.
