People with disability, carers and professionals working across disability, access and inclusion are invited to apply for The Hills Shire Council's Disability Inclusion Reference Group.
The aim of Council's external reference group is to guide the implementation of the newly adopted Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030 to improve accessibility in Council streets, venues, programs and services over a four-year term.
Mayor of the Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the reference group will play a crucial role in ensuring the voices of people with disability are heard and reflected in Council initiatives and decision-making.
"The DIAP sets out a clear vision for making the Hills more inclusive, but meaningful change can only be achieved by working alongside people with lived experience of disability," Mayor Byrne said.
"The 2022-2026 DIAP Reference Group was the first in Council's history and their contributions were invaluable. The Group helped make Council's communications and our venues more accessible and provided feedback on infrastructure project designs.
"I'd like to thank members of the 2022-2026 DIAP Reference Group for the incredible impact they made during their term and for volunteering their time to help make the Hills more accessible and inclusive.
"The 2026-2030 DIAP Reference Group will build on these achievements. We're looking for passionate community members who can share their insights and ideas to help Council deliver positive outcomes for people with disability, their families and carers. If this sounds like you, please apply."
Reference group members must be at least 18 years of age and live, work, study in, or demonstrate a strong commitment to the Hills Shire community. Expressions of Interest will be assessed using the four pillars of Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030.
Expressions of Interest will close on Monday 9 November 2026.
