La Trobe University international students will receive extra support to help them transition back to campus, complete their studies remotely, and gain employment after graduation, as part of a $50 million Victorian Government initiative.
La Trobe will receive $5,083,137 as part of the International Education Resilience Fund, and will roll out programs supporting new and existing international students during 2022.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students), Professor Jessica Vanderlelie, said the funding would expand the support the university already provides, giving international students a much-needed boost during a challenging time.
"Since the pandemic hit, La Trobe has done all it can to support our international students financially, academically and emotionally - but there's no denying that it's been a really tough time for many," Professor Vanderlelie said.
"This funding will help La Trobe provide strong, targeted support so that - whether studying in Australia or overseas - international students will be in a good position to complete their studies, and secure employment after graduation."
La Trobe's international students based in Australia and overseas will have additional opportunities to:
- Benefit from specialised learning support to expand their online academic skills, English language skills and understanding of Australian culture
- Participate in virtual industry projects and work integrated learning
- Connect with mentors in Australia and overseas, particularly tapping into La Trobe's regional industry network
- Take part in workshops focused on workplace culture in both Australian and overseas professional working environments
- Benefit from financial assistance and wellbeing support for students studying onshore
The International Education Resilience Fund supports Victorian universities by providing funding for their international student welfare and support services, improved delivery of remote and offshore teaching and learning, and increased student engagement programs and events.
