Surf Coast Shire Council is seeking community input into the draft Fair Access Policy. This policy seeks to address barriers experienced by women and girls in accessing and using community sport and recreational infrastructure.
To support this draft policy, Council has developed a draft action plan which outlines the actions Council will take with the clubs and user groups to further improve access to and use of community sporting infrastructure for women and girls.
Council's draft Fair Access Policy has been based on the Fair Access Policy roadmap developed by the Office for Women in Sport.
"Council is committed to ensuring community sporting environments are welcoming, accessible and inclusive for all. This draft policy and action plan looks at how our sporting clubs can remove barriers for women and girls for participation," Cr Kate Gazzard said.
"We know our sporting clubs in the Surf Coast Shire are already doing great work to make sure women and girls can play any sport, just look at the number of female teams across all sports."
"This policy outlines Council's requirements, roles, responsibilities and expectations to support our sporting clubs in removing barriers for everyone to participate from their first participation to senior competitions and committee and leadership roles," she said.
An online information session will be held on Wednesday 10 April at 4pm for sporting clubs seeking more information about this draft policy. Registration for this session is at yoursay.vic.gov.au/fair-access-policy
The community engagement is open from Wednesday 27 March until Tuesday 21 May 2024.
