Family First National Director and NSW Legislative Council candidate Lyle Shelton has today reaffirmed the party's commitment to working to remove gender fluid ideology from New South Wales schools if elected in March, following new analysis revealing its widespread rollout.
Mr Shelton said analysis released this week by the Australian Christian Lobby's Joshua Rowe showed around 150 public schools across the state have now implemented the Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) program.
"Parents send their children to school to be educated in core subjects like Maths, Science and English — not to be indoctrinated into LGBTQA+ gender fluid ideology," Mr Shelton said.
"While Josh's analysis found aspects of the course had merit – such as teaching respect, safety and the seriousness of domestic violence - these outcomes do not require the introduction of contested gender ideology into the classroom."
It was also wrong for children to be taught that it is okay for two men to deliberately deny and child a mother and for two women to deliberately deny a child a father.
"Teaching children that intentional motherlessness and intentional fatherlessness is normal and ethical is indoctrinating children into accepting a breach of the human rights of the child."
Mr Shelton said elements of the RRE program go well beyond basic respect, introducing concepts that suggest gender is fluid and self-defined, and encouraging young children to question biological realities.
"These are increasingly discredited ideas, and they are being presented to children as young as kindergarten," he said.
"Parents have the primary responsibility for the upbringing of their children, not the state," he said.
"Family First will fight to restore that balance and ensure schools stick to their core mission of education, not social engineering."
