The joy of Christmas was brought to Fortescue Metals Group's (Fortescue) operational sites, with family members flown to the Pilbara to spend Christmas with their loved ones.
Guests were provided with a glimpse of life at site with a tour of Fortescue's mining operations at Solomon and the Chichester Hub and were treated to a Christmas feast, while Santa also made a detour via the Pilbara to meet some of the youngest visitors.
Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Gaines said, "Family is at the core of our values and we know that the support families provide to our team members who work away from home is critical to their health and wellbeing and to the success of our business.
"The Family Days are a highlight for many of our team members and after having to pause the visits for most of 2020, we were delighted to be able to go ahead with the Christmas visits in recognition of the hard work and dedication of our team members who stepped up to ensure we continued operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic," Ms Gaines.
Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent James Hunt was able to welcome his partner Vikki and their daughter Shelby to Solomon, where he has been working in a fly-in fly-out role for the past six years.
"Having a supportive family is vital when you are working FIFO, especially during COVID where it was so important to stay in contact daily," James said.
"As a family, we appreciate the support from Fortescue during this period and it means so much that my family was able to come to Solomon to see where I spend so much time. Shelby was really excited to see some of the larger than life machinery and enjoy dinner and dessert at Dad's work."
