The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) today unveiled a commemorative postal stamp to mark its 80th anniversary. The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy in collaboration with the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute (IPZS), Poste Italiane, was officially presented during the World Food Day ceremony at FAO headquarters in Rome.
The stamp, issued as part of Italy's "Social Values" series - which celebrates institutions and initiatives contributing to the common good - honors FAO's eight decades of work towards ensuring food security for all. Designed by FAO and optimized by the IPZS Philatelic Centre, it features the FAO 80th anniversary logo symbolizing the Sustainable Development Goals, the Organization's institutional emblem, and its motto "Fiat Panis", represented by a stylized wheat spike forming the number 80. In the background, FAO's historic headquarters in Rome's Aventine district is depicted, with the United Nations flag flying above.
The unveiling took place in the presence of FAO Director-General QU Dongyu; Undersecretary of State for Enterprises and Made in Italy, Fausta Bergamotto; and senior representatives of the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute (IPZS) and Poste Italiane.
The stamp and its philatelic collection celebrate not only FAO's legacy but also its ongoing vision for the future. A series of commemorative labels (erinnofili) inspired by FAO's Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, better environment and better life - leaving no one behind, and the FAO80 theme have also been produced for the occasion.
The stamp is available in Italy from 16 October 2025 at philatelic counters nationwide and online via Poste Italiane's website.
