Fatal Fire Investigation, Garbutt

Queensland Police are investigating after two people have died following a suspicious house fire at Garbutt yesterday afternoon, July 12.

Emergency services were called to the Chandler Street address around 3pm, following reports of the fire.

Two people inside the property at the time of the fire, an 18-year-old Garbutt man and an 18-year-old Bohle man, both sustained serious injuries and were initially transported to Townsville University Hospital.

The 18-year-old Garbutt man was later declared deceased at the hospital.

The 18-year-old Bohle man was transported by air to the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital in Brisbane, where he passed away from his injuries this morning.

Two other male occupants who were at the address at the time of the fire were not physically injured.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and officers are appealing to members of the public who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam vision to come forward.
