Next Stop: Fed Square

Metro Tunnel passengers have a new stop as Labor opens the final entrance to Town Hall Station.

The Town Hall Station entrance at Federation Square will open to passengers tomorrow.

The entrance connects passengers to Federation Square, ACMI, the Melbourne Arts Precinct, Rod Laver Arena and the MCG.

Town Hall Station is one of the busiest stations on the network, recording 7.7 million journeys since it opened.

The station was recently named one of the World's Most Beautiful Stations by the Prix Versailles international architecture awards.

Town Hall's 18 metre-wide platforms are among the widest underground metro platforms in the world and its 'trinocular' design of three overlapping tunnels at platform level features a cathedral-like arched ceiling.

The new entrance features a light-filled canopy that complements the area's contemporary architecture.

A 45-metre art installation by renowned First Nations artist Maree Clarke, Barerarerungar, is the striking centrepiece.

Its 30 large glass panels celebrate the five Kulin Nations and acknowledge the traditional Tanderrum ceremonies once held on the site.

The work continues Maree Clarke's Tracks installations, which feature in all five Metro Tunnel stations.

There's been more than 25 million journeys across all five Metro Tunnel stations since opening in November 2025.

The Metro Tunnel has doubled Melbourne's underground rail network, with a trip from Arden Station to Anzac Station taking just 10 minutes.

The Liberals called the Metro Tunnel a "hoax", and our public transport services are at risk from Jess Wilson's Liberal One Nation Coalition's $40 billion plan of cuts.

As stated by Minister for Public Transport Vicki Ward

"The Metro Tunnel has changed the way people move across Melbourne - adding more than 1,200 extra services every week and freeing up the City Loop to run more trains across more lines."

"This spectacular new entrance will better connect passengers to Federation Square, the Melbourne Arts Precinct and the MCG."

"The Liberals called the Metro Tunnel a "hoax". Only Labor invests in the transport infrastructure people rely on every day."
