Fatal Scooter Crash on Magnetic Island

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 26-year-old Belgian tourist died as the result of a motor-scooter crash on Magnetic Island yesterday (June 23).

Initial investigations indicate the woman was riding the scooter along Horseshoe Bay Road just after 3pm when she crashed into a street sign.

Members of the public gave first aid before emergency services arrived, however the rider was transferred to the Townsville University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

The rider succumbed to her injuries around 9pm.

Authorities are working with DFAT to notify family in Belgium.

Investigations are continuing and Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
