Fatal Traffic Crash at Charters Towers

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal traffic crash at Breddan yesterday afternoon, May 14.

About 4.05pm, police and emergency services were called to the Flinders Highway near Macrossan Bridge, to reports or a two-vehicle traffic crash.

Investigations indicate, a Holden Epica and a Hyundai Kona were travelling in opposite directions before becoming involved in a head-on collision.

A woman in her 50s, a passenger in the Kona, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Epica, a woman in her 40s, sustained significant injuries and was transported to Townsville Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Kona, a man in his 50s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

Anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police.

Investigations are ongoing.
