Fatal Traffic Crash Investigated by Police in Port Douglas

The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating a fatal traffic crash at Oak Beach, south of Port Douglas, yesterday afternoon, 22 May.

Emergency services were called to the Captain Cook Highway shortly before 4pm following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Initial investigations indicate a white Mitsubishi Triton utility struck a red Mazda MX-5 before colliding with a white MG3 hatchback just south of the intersection with Reynolds Road.

The driver of the MG, a 25-year-old Mossman woman, and an infant passenger died at the scene.

A 22-year-old female passenger was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The male driver of the utility, a 62-year-old Port Douglas man, was transported to Cairns Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 54-year-old Trinity Beach man, and his passenger, a 57-year-old Trinity Beach woman, did not sustain any physical injuries.

Anyone with relevant information or dashcam vision is urged to come forward.
