Fawkner Embona arrests

Officers from Fawkner Embona have arrested two women following an aggravated carjacking and attempted armed robbery.

Investigators allege two women were observed breaking into a car on Ascot Street, Ascot Vale about 10.20am on 25 May.

They confronted a witness before getting into a nearby car and threatening the driver with a firearm.

The victim drove the women to an address in Preston before seizing an opportunity to flee the vehicle and report the matter to police.

Investigators allege one of the women was then involved in an attempted armed robbery which occurred on Racecourse Road, Kensington about 12.15pm on Thursday 27 May.

A man was approached by a woman who displayed a firearm while asking for $50.

The man refused and the offender left the area.

Police attended the scene and arrested a 49-year-old woman from Flemington, nearby.

Embona crews made further enquires and a 26-year-old woman from Preston was arrested in Preston about 5.30pm last night.

Warrants have been executed and police located a firearm.

Both women have been charged with aggravated carjacking, false imprisonment, armed robbery and numerous other offences.

They have been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
