An outstanding $21.1 million learning centre has been officially opened at Ferny Grove State High School, while construction is starting on a new $12 million multi-purpose hall.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Education Minister Grace Grace and Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner opened the three-storey building which was delivered under the Government's 2020 Ready Program.
The Premier said the centre's modern resources and equipment were giving students the chance to discover a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
"This new centre is nothing short of world-class," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"It includes 22 new classrooms, three flexible learning areas, a STEM specialist studio, four science labs, five collaborative spaces, staff rooms, offices and amenities.
"We know that STEM jobs are in high demand which is why my Government is investing $81.4 million in engaging primary school students in STEM education across Queensland.
"By providing facilities like these at Ferny Grove, we're giving students the skills they need for the jobs of the future."
Minister Grace said the Government was investing heavily in new projects at Ferny Grove.
"This new building and the multi-purpose centre make up an investment of $33.1 million at this school," Ms Grace said.
"I'm excited to announce that the $12.1 million sport and performing arts centre at the school is now shovel ready and is being delivered under our Renewing Our Schools Program.
"The new centre will include two multi-purpose courts, performance stage, box office and foyer, along with a wide range of support spaces and offices.
"This project will also include the refurbishment and extension of the school's administration building.
"Both will be ready for the start of the 2021 school year."
Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner said the new STEM centre meant so much to the students, staff and school community.
"The new learning centre will give the students at Ferny Grove State High an opportunity to learn in industry-standard facilities," he said.
"These projects are a boost for the local economy, too.
"The new STEM centre was built by Wiley & Co and supported 63 jobs while the multi-purpose centre will support 36 jobs and will be delivered by Bryant."
Ferny Grove State High School Principal John Schuh said the entire school community welcomed the new facilities.
"As a community we have embraced this wonderful new learning centre at our school that is providing our students with access to world-class facilities," Mr Schuh said.
"And I know the students are really looking forward to the development of the new sports and performing arts centre."
