Final draft Macquarie river corridor master plan on public exhibition

Following the community consultation process, Dubbo Regional Council's (DRC) Final Draft Macquarie River Corridor North and South Precinct Master plan is now on public exhibition.

Councillors endorsed the master plan to be placed on public exhibition at the 8 December Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Manager Recreation and Open Spaces Ian McAlister said they had worked hard to include something for everyone in the master plan.

"We have listened during the extensive consultation that has taken place as we sought input from the community into the development of the draft Macquarie River Masterplan (North and South Precincts), and we have heard what they have had to say," Mr McAlister said.

"We believe we have addressed the concerns by taking a balanced approach and we are looking forward to hearing from the community during the public exhibition to see if we have it right or if modifications are needed."

During the consultation process community engagement was invited in a number of forms, including four workshops that allowed staff to hear from residents interested in the project to then assist them in further developing the plan.

Sala4D and Moir Landscape Architects has been working on spatial concepts for the river corridor precincts, informed by previous master plans, community strategic plan, the Open Space Master Plan 2018 and ideas and insights gathered from community and interest groups.

The master plan extends from the Nita McGrath netball precinct to Devil's Hole at the northern end and from the Lady Cutler Ovals to Shibble Bridge at the southern end.

Residents now have another chance to have their say on the final draft masterplan with the feedback space on the Dubbo Regional Council website allowing them to provide comments on individual sections of the master plan, or comment on the plan as a whole.

The plan will be placed on public exhibition until 17 February 2023 to provide an extended period for the community to make comment.

A review of the Final Draft Master Plan will be undertaken based on community feedback following the exhibition with a report to be provided for consideration at the March 2023 Ordinary Meeting of Council.
