The grass is greener at Alcock Road Reserve - literally.
The turf is now established at the reserve's three soccer fields (which can also be used to create a cricket field), marking the completion of Truganina's newest active open space.
Alcock Road Reserve was officially opened at an event today attended by Wyndham City Mayor Susan McIntyre and Victorian Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence.
Councillor McIntyre said the opening of the sporting fields followed the recent completion of stage one works, which delivered six tennis courts, a sporting pavilion, new cricket nets, playgrounds, BBQ and picnic areas, landscaping and a car park.
"Active open spaces play a vital role in the life of a community - they provide a space for exercising, playing and watching outdoor sports, meeting, socialising with friends and family or relaxing and unwinding," Cr McIntyre said.
Wyndham City Active City portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard added: "This exciting new space gives Truganina residents the sport and recreation facilities they need at their doorstep."
"We also welcome Western United Football Club, who will use this asset as their interim training base while the Regional Football Facility is under construction."
The reserve is part of the Truganina South-East Community Precinct Masterplan and is located next to the recently opened Koomail Tardy Community Centre, which provides kindergarten, maternal child health and community programs and services.
The $15.1 million project was jointly funded through Wyndham City ($12.1 million) and the Victorian Government ($3 million).
