Fire Danger Period ending soon

The CFA has declared that the Fire Danger Period will end at 1am on Monday 4 April in Knox.

This means fire activity restrictions have eased, and with a Permit to Burn, community members may burn off safely to manage and reduce bushfire risk on your property.

A helpful checklist on burning off, can be found in the Are you prepared for an emergency booklet. Some tips and advice include:

  • checking the CFA website to see if a Total Fire Ban day has been declared. Burn offs cannot be planned on Total Fire Ban days
  • ensuring your green waste is dry before burning off to reduce the amount of smoke produced. Most complaints from burning off relate to smoke.
  • checking the weather forecasts for the day of your planned burn off and a few days afterwards. If conditions are windy, you should postpone your burn off
  • notifying your neighbors about your burning off so they are aware

An alternative to burning off is to use our green waste collection services. Garden prunings, flowers, leaves and bark can be placed in your green waste bin for fortnightly collection. Bundles of branches and prunings can be tied up and booked for collection.

You may apply for a Permit to Burn online. Further information is available on our Burning off webpage.
