Firearm and drug arrest at Gold Coast

A man will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today charged over allegedly producing a firearm during a disturbance at an accommodation block at Labrador on Monday, April 1.

It is alleged around 9pm an altercation occurred between two men at a Marine Parade address when the firearm was produced.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Following extensive investigations detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, with the support of specialist police yesterday executed a search warrant at an Essex Court residence at Nerang and arrested a man.

During a search of the residence police allegedly located a replica handgun, dangerous drugs (fantasy) and a drug utensil.

A 22-year-old Nerang man has been charged with one count each of going armed to cause fear, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of utensil and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Gold Coast CIB said," Every incident involving threatening behaviour with a firearm is a priority. This police investigation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring those involved in weapon related crimes are brought before the court."
