Officers from the Logan District Tactical Crime Squad have charged a 22-year-old Yarrabilba man following a targeted firearm and drug investigation.
On January 24, Logan District intelligence officers, in conjunction with Logan District Tactical Crime Squad, acted on information received about a man who was allegedly in possession of multiple illicit firearms and ammunition, and was allegedly attempting to sell the items through online platforms.
Logan District Tactical Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a Springbrook Street address in Yarrabilba on January 25, locating eight firearms, including two that had been cut down and were concealable, along with a quantity of cocaine, cash, and other drug paraphernalia.
Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said the seizure of multiple firearms highlights the importance of proactive intelligence-led policing.
"Illicit firearms present a significant risk to community safety, and we take any information about their possession or sale extremely seriously."
"Our investigators acted swiftly on credible intelligence to identify where these weapons were being stored and remove them from circulation."
The man was not at the address at the time of the search and remained outstanding.
Following extensive inquiries and a range of investigative strategies in the Holmview and Beenleigh areas, officers located and intercepted a silver Nissan Navara linked to the man.
The 22-year-old was located in the vehicle and arrested.
Detective Acting Inspector Ellis said the investigation demonstrates the ongoing efforts of the Logan District Tactical Crime Squad to target serious criminal activity.
"Taking firearms, drugs and other illegal items off the streets directly contributes to making our communities safer.
"This result reflects the strong collaboration between our intelligence teams and frontline investigators, and the commitment of officers who work tirelessly to disrupt organised and serious crime."
The 22-year-old Yarrabilba man has been charged with 22 offences, including seven counts of unlawful possession of weapons category A, B or M, three counts of unlawful possession of suspected stolen property, two counts each of unlawful possession of weapons category D, H or R and receiving tainted property (firearm/ammunition), and one count each of possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act, possessing dangerous drugs (schedule 1 quantity of or exceeding schedule 3 but less than schedule 4), unlawful possession of suspected stolen property, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possessing dangerous drugs, authority required to possess explosives, possessing/acquiring restricted items and possession of a knife in a public place.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Beaudesert Magistrates Court on 24 March.
