Firearm located during Docklands intercept

Police have arrested a man in Docklands overnight after he was intercepted by officers from the Public Order Response Team (PORT).

The officers observed a man holding his mobile phone as he was driving on Flinders Street just before 9pm.

The vehicle was pulled over and whilst speaking with the driver, officers noticed what is alleged to be a baton in the driver's side door.

A subsequent search of the car is alleged to have uncovered a loaded sawn-off shot gun and fake identification.

The 46-year-old Altona North man was arrested and has been charged with multiple offences including prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possess loaded firearm and ammunition, use mobile phone whilst driving and going equipped to steal.

He will appear in court later this morning.
