Firearms, ammunition, and drugs seized; man charged at Fairfield

A man has been charged with firearm and weapon offences after police allegedly found prohibited firearms, weapons and drugs in his car at Wakeley yesterday.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to Bulls Road, Wakeley, early yesterday morning (Tuesday 18 February 2020), after reports a motorist had fallen asleep in his parked vehicle.

Police approached the car and woke the 35-year-old male occupant before allegedly noticing drug paraphernalia inside the car.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a bag containing two prohibited firearms, ammunition, two silencers, and a quantity of a prohibited drug, believed to be gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The man was placed under arrest and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A short time later, investigators, with the assistance of officers from Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES), conducted a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) search at a property in Bulls Road, Wakeley.

During the search, police located and seized a firearm and ammunition to undergo forensic examination.

A search warrant was also executed at a home in Mount Pritchard, where more ammunition was seized.

The man was charged with nine offences, including:

  • acquire firearm – subject to prohibition order,
  • acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order,
  • acquire prohibited firearm part,
  • two counts of possess unauthorised firearm,
  • two counts of possess ammunition without holding a licence,
  • possess prohibited weapon, and
  • learner not accompanied by driver.

He was refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 19 February 2020).
