Firearms, ammunition seized; man charged - Wetherill Park RES

A man will face court today charged with firearms offences after police seized firearms, ammunition and cash from a home in Sydney's south-west.

As part of ongoing investigations into prohibited drug and firearm offences, officers from Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES) stopped a vehicle on Woodville Road, Bass Hill, about 1pm yesterday (Friday 10 January 2020).

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

Police located a Glock 17 pistol, ammunition, a disassembled Colt .45-calibre pistol, a rifle scope, steroids and more than $17,000 cash. These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The man has been charged with two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, use, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm, two counts of not keep firearm safely-pistol, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, possess prohibited drug, and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

Police will allege in court that the man did not hold a valid firearms licence.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 11 January 2020).
