Police have charged a man with 16 offences after the alleged dangerous operation of a vehicle resulted in officers locating two firearms in Morayfield yesterday, 21 October.
During investigations into a hired Volkswagen Tiguan reported stolen on 17 October, police located the vehicle at a Bryven Court, Morayfield address on 21 October, where the car was recovered.
Prior to police arrival, a man allegedly left the property on a Yamaha YZF-R1 motorbike, which police tracked allegedly driving dangerously and at speed through Morayfield and onto the Bruce Highway.
Police intercepted and arrested the man at a shopping centre on Morayfield Road, Morayfield.
A search of the area found property, allegedly dumped by the man before arrest, including a dissembled shortened shotgun, an airsoft handgun with an attached magazine, shotgun ammunition, approximately 1g of methylamphetamine, approximately 0.5g of cocaine, approximately 6.5g of cannabis, approximately 75ml of 1,4-butanediol, drug utensils and cash.
A 34-year-old Scarborough man has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of unlawful possession of firearm - short firearm in public, unlawful possession of firearm, unlawful possession motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, obstruct police, authority required to possess explosives, possessing relevant substance, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, vehicles used on roads must be registered and drive uninsured vehicle.
He has been refused police bail and is due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court today, 22 October.
Detective Inspector David Harbison said police are dedicated to taking firearms off the streets.
"This investigation and arrest has resulted in two less firearms in our community," Detective Inspector Harbison said.
"Moreton district partners with the rest of the state under Operation Whiskey Firestorm focused on the investigation, prevention and disruption activities involving illicit firearms offences and violent firearm related offending.
"Under this coordinated and targeted response, we will continue working to reduce firearm-related crime and remove harmful and illegal weapons from the community."
