Firearms located after intercept in Dandenong North

Southern Metro Divisional Response Unit have charged two men in possession of firearms and drugs this morning.

Officers observed a Toyota utility travelling along Prices Highway just after midnight.

The ute was intercepted shortly after in Gardiner Avenue and the vehicle was searched by police.

During the search, police allegedly located three firearms, a taser device, methylamphetamine, heroin, cash and bank cards.

The two men, both from Dandenong North, were arrested at the scene.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, was charged with multiple offences including;

• Possess general category handgun.

• Possess unregistered category A or B longarm.

• Fail to store firearms in a secure manner.

• Possess ammunition without a licence.

• Possess heroin.

• Possess methylamphetamine.

• Possess prohibited weapon without an exemption.

• Deal property suspected of being the proceeds of crime

He was bailed to appear before the Dandenong Magistrates' Court on 25 May, 2023.

A 31-year-old man was issued with a drug diversion for the offence of possess methylamphetamine.
