The first of 12 trains for the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport Line has arrived in Sydney, marking an important step toward direct metro connection to Western Sydney International Airport.
The next-generation, 3-car train travelled 23,000 kilometres from Vienna before being unloaded at Port Kembla and taken to Sydney Metro's new Stabling and Maintenance Facility at Orchard Hills for assembly.
The trains are purpose-built for airport passengers, with wide accessible aisles, luggage storage below seats and high-resolution displays showing real-time flight information directly from the airport.
They will also include multiple seating choices, designated wheelchair spaces, accessible areas, hearing loops in all carriages and 4 bicycle storage spaces on every train.
The remaining 11 trains are due to arrive over the coming months. Testing on the 23-kilometre line from St Mary's to the Aerotropolis at Bradfield is expected to start later this year.
The new line will provide a fast, direct public transport connection between Sydney and Western Sydney International Airport.
The Australian Government and NSW Government are jointly funding the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport line, which will provide a fast, direct public transport connection to the airport for passengers, workers and communities across Western Sydney.
