First crowdfunded choral orchestral concert in Australia

SACRED is the first crowdfunded choral orchestral concert in Australia to meet its funding goal in the first 3 hours.

"I am truly humbled by the support from family and close friends, and I look forward to sharing with everyone the musical works that I’ve been keeping to myself all these years", says SACRED composer Ken Lai, best known for his work on the musical Angels, which was the subject of a SBS documentary several years ago.

Featuring a full choral ensemble and orchestra along with a line up of international and local soloists, SACRED takes audiences on a 2 hour musical experience that is both magical and spiritual, with many pieces inspired by the psalms of the Biblical King David. In his songs, we experience the full range of human emotions, from the contemplative stirrings of the heart to the soaring highs of eternal glory.

"Music has the power to lift and inspire, to console the broken, make a gloomy day seem that much brighter, and perhaps even to heal." says Ken Lai. "During a particularly dark time in my life – I found myself reflecting upon the Psalms of the Old Testament. Never before had the outpourings of sorrow and emotion contained within resonated as deeply, and I resolved to set many of these to music."

"SACRED will be a concert of these works (and others) written as much to heal myself, as to hopefully bring healing and joy to others."

SACRED also reunites Ken with the leading lady of Angels, Jessica Grové, who will be flying down under for the very first time to perform in the concert.

"I am so honoured to be performing in the SACRED concert this November, I can’t wait!" says Jessica, a Broadway actress and singer who started performing at the age of 15 and has since appeared in multiple productions including Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.

Ken Lai and the musicians are set to perform at the SACRED concert in Sydney in late November. The crowdfunding campaign is currently underway. ---
