Cancer Council WA has thanked the Collier Charitable Fund for their generous inaugural $15,000 grant, which will help provide 1000 free meals for country cancer patients staying at Crawford or Milroy Lodge in Perth while undergoing vital treatment.
Cancer Council WA Accommodation Services Manager, Ron ten Hoor, said the funding will make a meaningful difference to the lives of regional West Australians who often face significant financial and emotional pressures when they need to travel to Perth for cancer treatment.
"We are so grateful to the Collier Charitable Fund for this incredible donation," Mr ten Hoor said. "People from regional and remote parts of WA already face so many challenges when they need to leave their homes, families, and communities to access treatment in Perth.
This generous grant will help us provide 1000 free breakfasts, lunches and dinners to our Lodge guests, easing some of that stress so they can focus on their recovery.
Mr ten Hoor said each year more than 5000 country cancer patients and their carers stay at Crawford Lodge in Nedlands and Milroy Lodge in Shenton Park, which provide a home away from home for those needing to travel long distances for treatment.
"Our Lodges offer much more than accommodation - they provide comfort, connection, and a sense of community for people facing cancer far from home," he said. "For the past 25 years, generous donors, community fundraisers, volunteers, and partners like the Collier Charitable Fund have made everything we do possible.
"Every support service we offer to country families is donor funded, and this grant will have a lasting impact on the wellbeing of our guests."
