First Home Owner Grant Triple For Tasmanians

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has tripled the First Home Owner Grant, delivering on a key election commitment.

The Taxation and Related Legislation Bill passed the Tasmanian Parliament, which triples the First Home Owner Grant to $30,000 for newly built homes and extends the payroll tax rebate for apprentices.

Treasurer Eric Abetz said that this backs in jobs and addresses housing supply.

"Building more homes and giving the next generation of home builders and tradies a leg up is a win-win," the Treasurer said.

"This Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmanians - we have proudly delivered on this commitment, which will make it cheaper for Tasmanians to build their own home, stimulate the construction industry and increase the housing supply.

"Our stamping out stamp duty initiative has assisted over 6,000 Tasmanians into their own home, and I hope that this latest scheme will assist many more Tasmanians into home ownership."

Minister Abetz said that this bill is about more than delivering more houses, it will also upskill and continue to train our local workforce.

"Through this Bill we are acting to address both supply and ensuring that our apprentices are given every support to become fully qualified tradies," Minister Abetz said.

"Skilled tradies will be vital in the delivery of our $30 billion infrastructure pipeline.

"This legislation will allow more Tasmanians to get their foot in the door and build the home of their dreams while training our next generation of tradies."
