First Look At New Spotswood Station

VIC Premier

Families in Spotswood are a step closer to safer and more reliable journeys.

Early designs have been released for a new Spotswood Station and rail bridge that will remove the dangerous andcongested Hudsons Road level crossing.

The designs have been shaped by community feedback, with locals calling for safer connections and more open space while keeping the heritage feel of the area.

More than 6,600 vehicles use the crossing each day while boom gates are down for up to 50 minutes during the morning peak, causing delays for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Removing the crossing will make journeys safer and more reliable in Melbourne's inner west.

The new elevated Spotswood Station will feature entrances at Hudsons Road and McLister Street.

The heritage-listed station building on Hope Street will be incorporated into the design.

Elevating the rail line will create new open space with landscaping, seating and better walking and cycling connections.

The community can view the designs, provide feedback and register for an information session at engage.vic.gov.au/lxrp-hudsons-road.

Five level crossings are being removed across Melbourne's inner west at Newport, Spotswood, Yarraville and Altona.

The Werribee Line will be level crossing free by 2029.

As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams

"Removing the dangerous Hudsons Road level crossing and building a new Spotswood Station will make journeys safer and less congested for local families."

"It's one of five level crossings that are going for good in Melbourne's inner-west, making the Werribee Line level crossing free by 2029".

As stated by Member for Williamstown Melissa Horne

"The removal of the Hudsons Road level crossing, coupled with the truck ban, will transform Spotswood and make it safer and easier for locals to get around."
