First MDCP industry reference group meeting

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

The first meeting of the Mining Development and Closure Proposal (MDCP) framework industry reference group was held in November, following a call out from the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) for industry representatives to participate.

After the release of the MDCP discussion paper for consultation, and three highly attended industry workshops, the reference group will now provide input into draft guidance materials to support applicants developing a MDCP submission.

Consisting of participants from private entities, mining consultants and industry associations, the reference group will ensure a wide range of perspectives are considered when developing the guidance material.

The first meeting covered the content requirements of a MDCP and how duplication could be reduced through the mining approvals process.

DEMIRS Resource and Environmental Compliance Executive Director Tyler Sujdovic said stakeholder consultation is an important step in understanding current industry needs.

"The department would like to thank everyone who expressed their interest in being part of the group," he said.

"The high level of interest is extremely encouraging, and we look forward to working with stakeholders to deliver an efficient and effective regulatory framework benefiting both industry and the department."

A draft MDCP guidance document will be available for external consultation in early 2024.
