First-round registrations for three-year-old kindergarten ending soon

Next year, three-year-old children in Knox will be able to attend five hours of funded kindergarten at a Council-run service for the first time. You can register your child now.

Registrations are now open for our three-year-old sessions next year. You can view our kindergarten locations and proposed session times here. You can nominate up to five preferences when you register.

Registering before 31 July places you in the first round of offers. This means that you have the best chance at getting your first preference for kindergarten. You can still register after 31 July, and families who register after this will be offered a place in subsequent offer rounds.

First-round registrations have closed for four-year-old kindergarten, but you can still register your child. If you would like your child to attend a Council-run kindergarten next year, please register them as soon as possible.

Three-year-old kindergarten at Council-run services is new. From 2022, we will be running a two-year kindergarten program, with five hours a week for three-year-olds, and 15 hours a week for four-year-olds.

This expansion is part of an unprecedented investment into early childhood education by the state government. The evidence that supports this kindergarten expansion is profound. Children who attend two years of kindergarten have better cognitive and social skills when they start school.

We run 30 purpose built sessional kindergartens across Knox, two of these sessions are located at our Early Years Bayswater and Wantirna Hubs. At these Hubs, Knox also provides kindergarten programs run by qualified teachers as part of our two long day care programs. Families can also access funded kindergarten at independently run kindergartens and long day cares, run by private providers.

We understand families have questions and we are here to help. You can find out more information by:
