La Trobe has achieved an overall rating of five stars in the latest QS Stars ratings.
In addition, the University also achieved five-star ratings in a total of eight categories - the maximum number possible.
La Trobe is one of only six Australian universities to be rated at five stars in eight categories.
QS Stars is a rating system that provides a detailed look at higher education institutions world-wide, focusing on specific topics such as teaching, employability, research strength and inclusiveness.
La Trobe is also ranked in the world top 400 in all three major rankings:
- 317 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)
- 397 in the 2018 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings
- 341 in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings
- 59th globally in the THE Golden Age Rankings.
These rankings placed La Trobe in the top 1.2 per cent of universities globally.
La Trobe's Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerri-Lee Krause welcomed the QS five-star results, saying they reflected the University's exceptional performance across a wide range of activity and the strength across all core areas.
"These fantastic results are a strong indicator of how La Trobe is achieving success in all areas that make a real difference to the employability and long-term success of our students," Professor Krause said.
"I'm thrilled that we have achieved top marks in such fundamental areas as teaching strength, employability and research excellence.
"The successful ratings also demonstrate our emphasis on equity and access for all students, our international focus and the impact of our innovation on wider society and culture."
La Trobe achieved five stars in the following categories:
- Teaching
- Employability
- Research
- Internationalisation
- Facilities
- Innovation
- Inclusiveness
- Specialist criteria - sports-related subjects
Universities are evaluated against dozens of indicators across at least eight categories. After the assessment, universities are awarded an overall Star result, depending on the number of points achieved through the evaluation.
