Jimboomba's Cusack Lane will turn into a foodies' haven when the inaugural FLAME BBQ Street Festival fires up this Saturday (September 17).
The event, presented by Logan City Council in partnership with BBQ & Beer Roadshow, will feature barbecue and other food trucks, fare from local cafes and businesses, eating and cooking competitions, market stalls, live music, fire shows and rides for the youngsters.
A bumper crowd is expected and festival attendees are urged to plan ahead and consider the various parking options available.
Brisbane Street and Cusack Lane (between Johanna Street and Brisbane Street) will be closed from 6am for the event, which starts at 3pm.
Access to Jimboomba Town Centre business will be via Johanna Street. The Jimboomba Country Markets will proceed as normal on Saturday morning with parking available at the Jimboomba State School entrance and along the service road.
Free parking for the FLAME festival will be available on the Jimboomba State School oval (access via Johanna St) and on land near the Johanna Street/Cusack Lane roundabout.
Another parking option will be at Hills College (121 Johanna Street) with a free shuttle bus service running every 15 minutes between the site and the event.
Council's Economic Development Chair, Councillor Jon Raven, urged those coming to the festival to allow plenty of time for travel and parking.
"I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday arvo and Jimboomba is the perfect place to enjoy some smoked BBQ and a beverage," Cr Raven said.
Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan, a keen barbecue enthusiast who came up with the idea for a local street food festival and city-wide cook off, said FLAME would firmly put Jimboomba on the foodie map.
"I am proud to bring a new and exciting barbecue and street food festival to my community," Cr Bannan said.
"We have hosted some great events down this way before and I have no doubt this will be another terrific one."
Barbecue competitions held across the City of Logan in recent weeks have produced four finalists who will cook-off for an overall winner, which will be among the highlights of the FLAME program.
Brett George, Phil Grech, Ash Armour and Daniel White will each cook their signature barbecued meat dish which will be tasted by a panel of judges.
The event is co-funded by the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund and Logan City Council.
