Flood Grant Funding: Bayside

Bayside Council received $2m of NSW Severe Weather and Flood Grant funding that will be used to improve the severely eroded Sandringham rock wall and fix flood affected roads within Bayside.

"As one of the flood-affected areas in NSW, Bayside Council successfully applied for, and received, a total of $2 million in Special Disaster Grants," Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

"The impact of recent storms and floods have been diverse, and Council has identified several projects that would benefit from this funding."

One of the projects is the Sandringham rock wall where Council is planning to install a rock buffer along the seawall foreshore between Sandringham Beach and Vanston Baths to minimise deterioration of the seawall and impacts from tidal sand movement.

A complete program of works, including roads and drains affected by the recent weather events, utilising the $2 million will be developed and brought back to Council at the October 2022 meeting and will be included as part of the Quarter 1 budget review statement.

The NSW government, in partnership with the Commonwealth, provided funding directly to local councils, to support local economic and social recovery efforts in areas impacted by the severe weather and flooding events of 2022.

This NSW Severe Weather & Flood Grant funding is designed to provide timely financial assistance directly to affected councils to support them to undertake immediate recovery activities, address emerging needs and to help build community resilience.

This includes initiatives across social, economic, and natural environment recovery domains including built infrastructure.
