MODERATE FLOODING EASING AT NITMILUK CENTRE
Moderate to major flooding is occurring along the Katherine River between Nitmiluk Centre and Katherine Bridge. The flood peak passed through Nitmiluk Centre on Wednesday afternoon and is currently around Katherine Bridge, where the river level is relatively steady just above the major flood level (17.5 m). The current river level is approximately 1.60 m lower than the major flood peak recorded earlier this month. The river level at Katherine Bridge is expected to begin easing from Thursday afternoon.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days, however significant rainfall and significant renewed river level rises are not expected. The situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Katherine River Gorge Road:
Moderate flooding is easing along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre peaked at 7.53 m around 3:30 pm Wednesday, with major flooding. The river is currently at 6.23 m and falling, with moderate flooding. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is likely to fall below the moderate flood level (5.50 m) Thursday afternoon. The river is likely to remain above the minor flood level (3.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday.
Katherine Town:
Major flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Katherine Town.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 17.55 m and relatively steady around a peak just above the major flood level. The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to remain just above or around the major flood level (17.50 m) during Thursday morning before beginning to ease from Thursday afternoon. The river is likely to fall below the moderate flood level (16.50 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river may fall below the minor flood level (16.00 m) Friday morning.
