Issued at 3:40pm AEDT on Friday 1 April 2022

Heavy rainfall and minor to moderate flooding in some Gippsland catchments in Victoria are expected on Sunday as a low-pressure system moves south on Saturday.

Rainfall totals of between 10-30mm are expected on Saturday for central and East Gippsland, with slopes east of Lakes Entrance expecting between 30-60mm. Totals of between 60-100mm are possible in isolated areas in this region on Saturday.

Rainfall will intensify on Sunday, with rainfall totals of 20-50mm expected in central and East Gippsland and 50-80mm around and south of the ranges east of Bairnsdale with isolated totals of more than 100mm possible in this region.

The Bureau has issued a flood watch for Gippsland catchments with minor to moderate flooding likely on Sunday. If higher rainfall occurs, major flooding is possible in East Gippsland.

Coastal wind warnings are current for the Victorian coast with damaging wind gusts recorded around the alpines overnight. These winds are expected to ease Friday day but re-intensify on Saturday and Sunday.

The Bureau is recommending communities in these areas stay up to date with the latest Bureau warnings through the Bureau's website (www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings) and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
