Crucial disaster assistance has been activated for Quilpie Shire to support response and recovery efforts following recent rainfall and flooding.
The activation will allow Quilpie Shire Council to access funding for essential recovery activities, including clean-up operations, public safety measures and repairs to damaged public assets such as roads and bridges.
Quilpie recorded its highest monthly rainfall total in June, representing almost half the shire's total rainfall for the year to date, placing significant pressure on local infrastructure and resources.
The support is being delivered through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), which provide financial assistance to councils after eligible disaster events.
Queensland is the most disaster-prone State in Australia, with regional and remote councils relying on DRFA funding to restore essential infrastructure and keep communities connected following natural disasters.
Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said the activation would ensure Quilpie could begin recovery without delay.
"This disaster funding is critical for the recovery of our regional Queensland communities," Minister Leahy said.
"We will always support our Councils through disaster recovery because Queenslanders should never be worse off after a disaster.
"Quilpie is still feeling the impacts of the 2025 floods, and we're making sure regional Queensland has the support it needs to recover faster and rebuild stronger."
