Flu Vaccinations Now Available to Territorians

NT Government

Territorians over the age of six months can now receive their 2022 influenza (flu) vaccine.

The flu vaccination can be accessed from GPs, pharmacies or health clinics, including remote clinics.

This year, the flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be administered at the same time, so there is no need for delay.

The flu is a highly contagious disease that can cause serious illness and affects people of all ages.

Flu vaccination is recommended between April and June as the NT heads towards dry season, or winter. During this period, flu case numbers peak across Australia.

Widespread coverage of the flu vaccine in the Territory is especially important this year with increased interstate and international travel expected.

The following people are more at risk of complications from influenza and are eligible to receive a free flu vaccination under the National Immunisation Program (NIP):

· Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged six months and over

· Children aged from six months to four years

· Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy

· People aged 65 years and over.

· People aged six months and over who have medical conditions that mean they have a higher risk of getting serious disease.

Preventative measures for the flu are similar to COVID-19 and include hand washing, physical distancing, wearing a mask and staying home if sick.
