Football Australia congratulates CommBank Matildas' Assistant Coach Melissa Andreatta on her appointment as Head Coach of the Scotland Women's National Team.
As one of Australia's pre-eminent women's football coaches, Andreatta joined Brisbane Roar FC as Women's Assistant Coach in 2011. While at the Roar, Andreatta also took up a role within Football Australia's Technical Department as CommBank Junior Matildas (U-17) Assistant Coach.
After four years as the club's Assistant, in 2016, Andreatta was appointed Head Coach of Brisbane Roar FC Women's Team, guiding them to their third Premiership in 2018. She was recognised for the success with the A-League Women's Coach of the Year Award, becoming only the second female coach to receive the honour.
It was during this period (2016-2018), Andreatta was part of the CommBank Matildas' technical staff as an Analyst Assistant Coach. 2019 saw her promoted within the Senior Women's National Team set up as she transitioned to Assistant Coach. In 2021, she became the full-time Lead Assistant Coach for their Tokyo 2020™ Olympics campaign assisting the team to a fourth-place finish - the highest finish in the team's Olympic history.
Three years on, Andreatta was appointed Head Coach of the first ever Australia U-23 Women's Team, alongside her CommBank Matildas' duties where she played an important role in Australia finishing a historic fourth at the FIFA Women's World Cup Australian & New Zealand 2023™.
Football Australia Head of National Teams, Gary Moretti, praised Andreatta's contributions, saying: "Mel's influence on women's football in Australia at both a domestic and international level has been significant, where she has been instrumental in not only the development of current CommBank Matildas but the success of the team over recent years.
"Mel's appointment as Head Coach of the Scotland Women's National Team is not only deserved recognition for her achievements to date but further acknowledgement of the high regard for Australian coaches internationally.
"We would like to thank Mel for her contribution to our women's national teams for more than a decade and wish her all the very best with this new and exciting chapter," concluded Moretti.
The two-match series against Korea Republic in April was Andreatta's final national team duties for Football Australia before commencing with the Scottish Football Association.
Andreatta's replacement will form part of a wider announcement in relation to the CommBank Matildas' coaching set up which will occur in due course.
