Former NASA Astronauts to Receive Congressional Space Medal of Honor

On Monday, March 30, 2020, at a SpaceX processing facility on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, SpaceX successfully completed a fully integrated test of critical crew flight hardware ahead of Crew Dragons second demonstration mission to the International Space Station for NASA's Commercial Crew Program; the first flight test with astronauts onboard the spacecraft. NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley participated in the test, which included flight suit leak checks, spacecraft sound verification, display panel and cargo bin inspections, seat hardware rotations, and more.

Vice President Kamala Harris will award former NASA astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken the Congressional Space Medal of Honor at 4:15 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Hurley and Behnken will receive the award for bravery in NASAs SpaceX Demonstration Mission-2 (Demo-2) to the International Space Station in 2020.

The ceremony will air on NASA Television, the agencyswebsite, and theNASA app, as well as the agencys flagshipTwitter,Facebook, andYouTubechannels.

On May 30, 2020, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the companys Crew Dragon spacecraft launched to the space station, marking the first mission to launch with astronauts as part of NASAs Commercial Crew Program.
