Former police officer joins Parole Board

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

A former police officer has been appointed to the Parole Board as part of the Hodgman Liberal Government's commitment to ensuring a member with policing experience is represented.

Retired Detective Inspector David Plumpton will take his place on the board from 1 July 2019, drawing on his strong policing background to take an active role in decisions made about prisoners' suitability for parole.

Mr Plumpton served Tasmania Police from 1974 to 2015, working across the State in a variety of roles, including as Inspector of the Glenorchy Criminal Investigation Branch.

He is currently president of the Retired Police Association of Tasmania, a role he has held since 2016.

The Hodgman Liberal Government strongly believes an individual with policing experience will bring a unique set of experiences to the Board which are relevant when considering whether a prisoner should be considered for parole.

This appointment also sees us deliver yet another of our election commitments.

On behalf of the Government, I welcome Mr Plumpton to his new role.
