Four Charged in High-Profile Tamworth Operation

Four people have been charged during a high visibility operation in the state's west.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District commenced Operation Soteria on Thursday 25 September 2025 which ran to early Sunday morning (28 September 2025).

The high visibility operation saw local police assisted by specialist officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command, Public Order Riot Squad and Proactive Crime Teams focused on preventing and disrupting crime through intelligence led initiatives in the Tamworth area.

During the operation, officers conducted 19 bail compliance and apprehended domestic violence order checks, six licenced premises checks, 11 person searches, and vehicle searches and two outstanding warrants were executed.

Four incidents of note include:

(Incident A) About 4pm on Thursday (25 September 2025) police executed a search warrant at a home on Green Street, West Tamworth. During a search of the home, police located and seized an allegedly stolen motorcycle. A 31-year-old man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested at the location and taken to Tamworth Police Station. He was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic) and due to appear before Armidale Local Court on Monday 13 October 2025. Inquiries continue.

(Incident B) In 2023, officers attached to the Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation into an alleged incident. About 7pm on Friday (26 September 2025), police arrested a 30-year-old woman wanted on an outstanding warrant, at a home in South Tamworth. She was taken to Tamworth Police Station where she was charged with two counts of neglect child or young person in his/her care, possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug more than small and less than equal to indictable quantity, variation application notice after breach etc, and fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgment. She was refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday (27 September 2025). She is due to reappear for Wyong Local Court on Thursday 16 October 2025.

(Incident C) About 12.30am on Sunday 28 September 2025 officers patrolling the Tamworth area stopped a vehicle on Marius Street, for random testing. Whilst speaking with the driver, a 19-year-old man, police allegedly observed ammunition in the consol. The vehicle was searched, and the ammunition was seized. The man was charged with possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority. He is due to appear before Tamworth Local Court on 24 November 2025.

(Incident D) About 2.30am on Sunday, police responded to reports of an alarm sounding at a residence on Tingira Street, West Tamworth. On arrival, police located and spoke with a 30-year-old woman. During a search of the woman, police allegedly located and sieved a knife. She was issued a Court Attendance Notice for the offence of custody of knife in public place. She is due to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday 21 October 2025.
