Fremantle has won Gold in the Top Tourism Town category of the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards at Parliament House in Canberra today, announced by Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Senator the Hon Don Farrell.
The Top Tourism Town Awards, part of the Australian Tourism Awards series, showcases the value of tourism to towns and communities across Australia, and celebrates the diversity of regional destinations from all over the country.
WA's Monique Boucher of Hidden deTours was awarded Silver in the Australian Top Tour Guide category.
Fremantle was Western Australia's finalist in the Top Tourism Town category, Exmouth represented WA as finalist in the Small Tourism Town category, and Kalbarri was WA's finalist in the Tiny Tourism Town category.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said the winners and finalists from WA had demonstrated an exceptional commitment to delivering high-quality experiences.
"Fremantle is renowned as Western Australia's historic port city and cultural heart, drawing visitors with its maritime heritage and vibrant arts scene," Mr Hall said.
Monique was WA's national finalist after winning the state's FACET Golden Guide Award earlier this year.
"Monique was recognised for her depth of knowledge and experience which translated to an authentic, immersive experience for guests," Mr Hall said.
The Australian Top Tourism Town Awards are presented by the Australian Tourism Industry Council and supported by Tourism Australia and Qantas, with finalists in each category having won at a state level through a process involving industry panel judges and a public vote. This is the fifth year the Top Tourism Town Awards have been run nationally, with the program having a lengthy history in WA.
