It’s almost time for Fremantle households to start clearing out all their old junk, with the City of Fremantle’s annual bulk waste verge collection starting on 1 February.
Items that will be collected include old furniture, mattresses, white goods and e-waste like TVs and computers.
Items that won’t be collected include building materials like bricks, tiles and cement; hazardous materials like chemicals, paint and oil; plate glass, mirrors and shower screens and tyres, car bodies and other car parts.
The verge collection will begin on February 1 for residential areas north of South Street, including Fremantle, North Fremantle, White Gum Valley and O’Connor.
For residential areas south of South Street, including South Fremantle, Beaconsfield, Hilton and Samson, the collection will start the following week on February 8.
City of Fremantle Infrastructure Director Graham Tattersall said it would be appreciated if residents didn’t place their unwanted items out on the verge too early.
“The bulk waste verge collection is a great opportunity to clear out all your old junk and make a fresh start to the new year,” Mr Tattersall said.
“In order to keep the neighbourhood tidy we’d ask people not to put items out on the verge any more than two days before the collection is due to start.
“We’d also request that people arrange their items in a nice neat pile and ensure there’s nothing that can blow away and become litter.
“Depending on how much there is to pick up we expect it will take up to a week to get around to all properties, but we’ll endeavour to have everything cleared away as quickly as possible.”
