- Expressions of Interest open for the lease or purchase of the heritage-listed Old Outpatients Building at former Princess Margaret Hospital site
- Planning framework nominates community use or art gallery as the preferred use
- Successful proponent to occupy the building by late 2026, following restoration and accessibility upgrades.
DevelopmentWA is seeking proposals from operators interested in occupying the heritage-listed Old Outpatients Building at Subi East, either through lease or purchase.
The Expression of Interest (EOI) is looking for nominations that propose a wide variety of uses that provide community benefits such as an art gallery; however, other uses may be considered with appropriate justification.
This unique heritage asset will be situated on its own 295 square metre lot within the Subi East precinct, surrounded by gardens, and a dedicated memorial.
Constructed in 1909 as a temporary measure while the former Princess Margaret Hospital was built, the modest Federation Bungalow style timber-clad building has a rich history and provides a historical connection to the early years of the hospital's operations and the health care offered to the children of Western Australia.
It initially served as consulting rooms for doctors and nurses, housed an emergency operating theatre for minor surgeries, and later became the headquarters for the Children's Hospital Women's Auxiliary.
Notably, it was the site of the State's first psychiatric clinic and eventually transformed into a Multi-Faith Centre, providing a space for prayer and spiritual reflection.
Restoration and accessibility works are underway, with the building anticipated to be ready for occupation in mid to late-2026.
Proponents who recognise the value and character of the Old Outpatients Building and share the vision for its activation are encouraged to submit proposals by 2pm on Wednesday, 9 July 2025.

As stated by Planning and Lands Minister John Carey:
"The Old Outpatients Building stands as a testament to our State's rich medical history and community spirit. We are committed to preserving its legacy while adapting it for contemporary use.
"We invite visionary proponents to bring forward proposals that honour the building's heritage and contribute meaningfully to the vibrancy of the Subiaco community."
